Buy chrome polish. This is usually used to polish chrome wheels, bumpers, etc. Also, a polishing compound can be used. You can usually find this in a department store. Sometimes the chrome polish is sold there too. We recently had a stopped up drain in the kitchen in a stainless steel sink. Due to the various drain openers and acids we used, our sinks were badly discolored and etched. Two uses of the chrome polish saved our sinks! A scratch-free, shiny sink is only a little elbow grease and chrome polish away the scratches. Obviously, this is for minor scratches and not deep ones.

I agree with Eric, but if it persists try rubbing compound, red type, same they use for paintjobs in cars.
If the scratches are still there go for waterproof sandpaper 1500 or finest.

I think the safest thing for you to do is call the manufacture and ask them. I know they could replace it for you. My son tried very fine steel wool but, you can still tell..

Oh, by the way. S.S. is brushed or sanded in one direction. Not circular motion!
