I have been on the Pill for a few years, and have been off of it for a couple of months --- and have forgotten what a "real" period feels like. How soon, before your period, should you experience cramps?

Some women experience symptoms around the time of ovulation. Ovulatory pain, which is felt in one or the other lower abdominal quadrants, may be caused by release of blood or fluid when the dominant follicle ruptures.
Menstrual pain is linked to a hormone that prompts ovulation. Women who ovulate, or release an egg during monthly cycles, make the hormone progesterone. This hormone boosts the body's level of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins stimulate uterine contractions. As the uterus contracts, it sloughs off the lining. The tissue passes out of the uterus through the cervix.

I have been through the same thing. When I go off BC, usually the day before I get my "real"period, I get killer cramps. I aslo get my period for about 5-6 days as opposed to 2-3 days while I'm on BC. My dr suggested BC to help with my painful periods

Couldn't tell ya. All women are different. Most who do get crampy will get cramps on the day they ovulate and again when the period starts. Depending on your individual cycle that could be 15 or more days after the start of your last period.

That varies from person to person. I usually start getting them 1 to 3 days before, but I have known people who have gotten them up to one week before their periods.

Yes PMS pre menstral syndrome, you can get cramps before your period comes, sort of like a warning.
