Probably nothing other than being reserved or shy.together with possible lack of social skills and confidence of inter acting with peers is the cause....
He could be totally focused on his education and away in his own enviroment he is just as normal as you,(that's if your normal) LOL
Sometimes the problem is much much deeper and can be because of home issues of being in an abusive family etc...♥

It could be anything. He may get social anxiety, he could be suffering from depression, something may have affected his personal life. It could be a number of things really.
Maybe he's just shy, but there's 'nothing wrong with him'. You should talk to him and find out what he's about etc. It'd probably make him feel a lot better.

probably sometimes a guy does not interact with people is bacause he is shy or he has bad-experience before..these are a few possibility...
1.possibly he came from a broken family? therefore he does not want to interact with people because he knows that they will pity him?...
2.he does not like the new school enviroment?..he misses his old school enviroment? he misses his mates and his buddys..
3. he thinks that you guys are arrogant and don't wanna talk to him? maybe he's of a different class of people?

Wrong with him?? Why do you think there is something wrong with him because he's quiet? I would say there is probably nothing wrong with him. Maybe he just doesn't have anything to say. Maybe he's focused on school. Maybe he's shy. Maybe he's secure enough in who he is not to need the approval of his classmates? I would say there could be a number of reasons he choses not to interact, but I wouldn't say there is something wrong with him for that choice.

He might be shy (most likely)
He might have previously been home-schooled and not know how to interact with others in a classroom.
He might not speak their language.
He might not know enough to contribute to class discussions.

He may have been the victim of abuse by peers, and is just staying away to cope, to feel not so vulnerable. He may be autistic. He may have Asberger's. Or he may just be an introvert.
Possibly, he has some social life that is okay with him, but elsewhere and not visible to you.
What is your interest in him? You should describe him more, in order to help flesh out the picture some.

That sounds like me and I can tell you several reasons why:
Shy
Stressed out by work/family problems.
Doesn't think he'll fit in.
More concerned about getting his degree than making friends.
Just doesn't want to bother anybody.
Question for you sister, have you thought about introducing yourself? You wonder why he doesn't socialize yet YOU haven't talked to him yet. Hypocrite.

I don't think there is any wrong, because of one of the following reasons:
1. maybe he is 'new'
2. maybe he just don't like to talk
3. maybe he think you are untrustable
4. maybe you seems to be like not friendly to him.
anyway, just treat him as how you treat the others and he will soon try to be friends with you if you were to treat him warmly. (hope that i didn't misunderstand you).

There's lots of answers here, the true is we don't know we need more info on him. He could be fine, he coould need a freind, or really messed up. If you really want to know. You need to know more about him. It's up to you
