I mean. If a teachers teaching style alone isnt enough to get a student to pass, then do you think the risk of potential failure will motivate the student to pass? I'm doing a research paper on this and I would be honored if you would give me your opiniion on this. Thank you!

Speaking as a teacher, failure is not something we prefer to practice but it is a necessary part of teaching. If everyone passed whether they did the work or not, there would not be starndards so why learn at all? Teaching is changing to the extent there is a movement not of failure but not letting students go on until they master a concept or level. You pass when you pass, Unfortunately this is not practical in very large systems or schools and there needs to be a remediation level for students who refuse to work. When i went to grade school it didnt matter how long you sat in a class you were not going to go to the next grade until you passed. There was very little failure because every year there seemed to be one student held back who was of course older and larger, and obviously someone who failed. The current system is to pass students socially to avoid some of that type of social stigma in grade school. In high school students are not given their credits until they earn them.

There is a lot of good research on this, with more credibility than Yahoo answers, but often the possibiity of failure is not enough to motivate a student to pass. I would suggest you search an academic library on "failure" and see what you find.
