I need some information on guinea pigs or hamsters...I've had hamsters before (4 of them), but I have never had a guinea pig. Which ones tend to make better pets? Which ones tend to bite more? Also, could I get some info on guinea pigs? Anything you want to share is fine such as whether it is better to get a boy or a girl, whether it is better to get a young or older one, the minimum, and I mean minimum, size cage you should use for them, and any other crap you want to throw my way lol. P.S. Is a 30" (length) x 18" (width) x 16" (height) cage suitable for a guinea pig?

Guinea Pigs make better pets..Hamsters tend to bite a lot.
You can hardly get a Guinea Pig to bite. They tend to be very quiet and shy.
Get a young(you'll have it longer) female(boys have a strong odor) The size of the cage isn't too important...You just need room for food, water and bedding. Also the Guinea Pig should have a small shelter. They like to hide during the day at times.
The size cage you mentioned is perfect.
Go to any pet store and they will be glad to give you info.
You can just type in Guinea Pig and get it on line.

Well, I personally think that hamsters are better because they don't get like big mama jama like the guinea pigs. Hamsters tend to bite more than guinea pigs because they are more territorial. I've been lucky to get 2 hamsters who have never bitten me. But if you are not sure about the cage size, I would get a hamster because they are so small. It's probably better to get a female because I think they bite less than males, and you want to get a younger one because hamsters only live for 2-3.5 years. I don't really know how long guinea pigs live, I would guess about 5 years tops.

My son has had both and to be honest Guinea Pigs do not have a very long life expectancy, I believe 5 years to be tops.As with any pet they need training not to bite and so young children shouldnt have them as pets, I mean under 4 @ least as they tend to want to maul them. They do need a nice size cage and something inside so they can "hide" at night to sleep. The best place I have found for the most Qualified answers is Pet Smart

I think, a hamster is better because, they tend from what I've seen, to be more active, affectionate, and less vocal, than guinea pigs.I HATE, the squeaky noises guinea pigs make! It hurts my ears. Ow!!

I've never owned either, what I said, is just from what I've observed in life.

Hamsters are much better. Guinea pigs eat their babies if you take one look at them. And if you get a Guinea pig get a female because a male tends to bite more when they don't have mates. Do not breed your Guinea pigs. There are more of those than there are humans.
