needs to be unlocked

have it unlocked at a cellular store or buy service from ebay.
Ebay is usually pretty cheap, you can buy service for less than $10. Do not get software unlock, instead send it in and get it unlocked physically. They won't revert back to "t-mobile settings" if something happens. Try this site on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Motorola-Phone-Unlock-Unlocking-All-V3-Razr-incld-8-26_W0QQitemZ320048558902QQihZ011QQcategoryZ43312QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I used them personally 3 times without any problem. They can also erase any old logos from the system. Good luck.

When T-mobile sells you a phone, they lock it to their company only, so you can't use it with other companies. Before you go and blame T-mobile for this, all companies do it. T-mobile is the only one though, that will often times unlock the phone for you. Try calling T-mobile customer care and see if they will unlock it for you. If you are in contract with T-mobile, they probably will, otherwise, probably not. To unlock your phone, you have to get the code. You can usually not do this for free. Try searching online for "Motorola Razr unlocking" and you will probably come up with something less then $20 that will do it for you.
