Cold turkey is not a very good distractant, it takes 3 days to get addicted, and 21 days to get over it.. The idea is to get distracted or attracted to something else.. gum and patch only change your form of intake of that addictive drug so you are not relly quitting anything. I got a miracle out of quiting; after praying , and quiting more times than you have, throwing away more 19 cigarette packs only to go buy a new pack the next day, one day i told God I just couldn't quit and he would have to do it if He wanted me to quit. Three weeks later i got up stuffing my pockets to go to work and realized i hadn't smoked one in three weeks and didn't even know it.. So i threw away my last 19 cigarette pack and never wanted another..

Actualy you have the right idea, cold turkey is the only proven sure
way of quiting smoking.I did it but used gum a few times and that worked fine,it's just a matter of getting the urge off of your mind.
Staying busy helps. But the gum takes the craving away quickly.
Also a friend of mine also quit cold and didn't use anything but he works long hours and sleeps alot so he pretty much slept through
his hard times.

I got sick with bronchitis for a least a week and when I went back
to smoking I started choking ,so from that day I decided to quit.
The more I tried the more I choked and I felt stupid cause I would
see young kids smoking like they were pros. And of course I just
give it up all together and didn't look back. You can do it, just put
your mind to it and stick to it. be strong. Think of the money that
you'll be saving, each time put it in a piggy bank or something or
spend it on something that you can use at home or for your family. Or better yet save it for a family trip that will be very exciting, that's better then spending it on some cigarettes, RIGHT!!, RIGHT!!!!. GOOD LUCK!!

the first time i quit i used zyban which worked great, but things happened and i started again. the second time i quit it was all will power. i cut myself down gradually from at least a pack a day to 1/2 a cigarette a day and then finally quit. I had only smoked for about 7 years though...Good Luck!

I substituted water for the cigarettes. It really works, but you have to want to quit. Really. If you drink lots of water, reach for a glass of water instead of a cigarette, and make it appealing, with ice, lemon, in a very nice glass, etc, it really works. It gives you something to reach for, plus it flushes the addictive chemicals out of your system.
