NEVER flush any tampons down a toilet that uses a septic tank! They will clog the leach tubes and cause the tank to back up. Even ONE can cause expensive damage to the drain tubes, where they have to dig the tank up, and either replace the leach tubes or tank itself.Mazi pads, feminine hygene products in general should never be flushed into a septic tank. Condoms will ruin a septic tank too. Certain brands of toilet paper will not break down in the tank and will cause the tank to have to be emptied by a pump truck. A good rule to go by is, take a clear jar of water, take one sheet of toilet paper and ball it up and put it in the jar, shake the jar for 15 seconds, it the paper starts to break down,(fall apart, making the water cloudy) it's safe to use in a septic tank, most of the quilted toilet paper isn't going to break down fast enough to be totally safe to use, where you may end up having to have the tank pumped more often than you should.

All tampons harm a septic system. Before I knew this I clogged my parents toilet. I think over time if you continue to flush tampons down the toilet it will become a problem. If you think wrapping up a used tampon and putting it in the trash is gross..just think about cleaning up an overflowing toilet....just put them in the trash.

NEVER EVER PUT TAMPONS INTO A SEPTIC TANK. You will have to have a plumber out, then he will embarrass you by holding up the tampons and saying something like "YOU can't put these in the toilet".
I was raised with a septic tank and have one now. My parents had several exchange students and had to put notes in the bathroom about tampons.

Absolutly, positivly YES! So do handi-wipes and wipe dipes. They are floaters and wont drop into a holding tank like solids do. Then they pass to your leach field and clog the heck out of it.
I am not aware of any tampon brand that is considered septic friendly.

I would have to say no but then again I'm not a septic system professional. But just referring to normal plumbing it clogs up the toilet so that probably still would clog your toilet even if you're on a septic system. Just to be safe I wouldn't.

Septic has added bacteria that specialize in eating human waste, not man made products. You are headed for trouble, big time! You are not supposed to put food in the drain either!

They could clog up your system. That's why the manufacturer wraps them in nice plastic wrappers. You are supposed to keep the wrapper and when you are done with the tampon, use the wrapper to dispose of it in the trash.

I always thought that a "proper lady" deposited her sanitary items in the trash, properly wrapped of course.
