I have heard what Socrates said - no wise man or woman would ever declare him or her to be wise. This logically would means that a wise man or a woman would only say – I am not wise, or at least not the wisest. I understand the logic behind this. But if I say I am not a wise person then that would mean I am indirectly saying – I am a wise person indeed, or I am actual so wise that I consider myself unwise, which in consequence would prove me to be a perfectly wise person. I therefore cannot say that I am wise even when I am, and on the other hand I cannot say that I am not wise even when I am wise, for that would tantamount to me declaring or boasting that I am so much wise. I cannot decide what I should say now that I have known what Socrates has said.

You are asking someone to tip the scales from yes to know(excuse the pun)

First the definiton of wise: Perception through the intellect; apprehension; recognition; understanding; discernment; appreciation. correct judgment; good mental capacity; understanding; also, that which is sound, true, or reasonable; rational meaning. notion; opinion.

How does it happen. Picking yourself up and dusting yourself off.
Believe it or not you gain wisdom from your mistakes. By observing human nature and making a decision based on your own heart and mind you can take it as a lesson or let it be your downfall. Common sense says go with the first option.

God Bless

"If I claim to be a wise man then it surely means that I don't know"--Kansas song. No I am not wise because wisdom is obtained through experience since there is always something out there new to experience nobody is truly wise. I prefer to think in terms of sense and nonsense. Yes I believe a carry some sense.

Wisdom is collected over the years by all the good and bad hings we do and out ability to learn from those things. Its complimented by all the good and bad interactions we have with other people. Not all people are wise or have the ability to be wise. Many people go about making the same mistakes they made before over the years with no ability to reflect their actions. And yet others learn over the years and are able to give good advise. However wisdom is very much wasted in a society taht does not respect the aged. In many cultures old people are seen as wise and able to offer good advice but in out modern day western society peple appear not to respect old people or their wisdom.

Wisdom is gained with experiences and many interactions (good and bad) over the years and the ability to learn from all those experiences.

The more you learn more, the more you find out that there are even more things that you DON'T know. I think that applies to wiseness too. So I guess the true wise ones are people that answer relatively affirmative, but not completely. I don't think I'm wise :)

I think I do. I can conclude that by observing what other people do to me. Most of the people that I know, even some that I don't really know, turn to me when they need advices. Most of the time they do what I tell them and they are happy with the results. Many times I got comments from them that I am a wise person. But myself, I am trying to be anyway.

The definition of being wise has many categories. Everyone is wise to a degree. Yet wisdom does not necessarily come with age. In general terms, wisdom is acheived by experience, and learning by our mistakes. Have you observed that most acaedemically 'un-educated' people, on the surface, appear to be un-wise; yet they have a wealth of life experience and are 'street wise.' You cannot fool them. However, people who have achieved degrees and higher education, seem to not grasp the rudiments of common sense and day to day capabilities? Moreover, how do we define wisdom? How much knowledge we accrue would depend on our up-bringing and life style. In my opinion, most people pass on their wisdom to their children. Some children go on to learn more from other sources. We often learn what we deem is enough to get us through life. Although, it does not seem to matter how wise we are, we still make mistakes. No body is infallible.

relative to most humans, definitely. This is not ego. Its a FACT. and I am not going to be modest in order to revel in arrogance about my modesty. Its just a fact, I am naturally more wise.

lol, jus kid. No, I just make connections and through patience, and intuition, things reveal themselves to me.. I guess its my cuiriosity and my refusal to "accept" everything someone tells me or what a teacher tells me the way thigns are...I just patiently asses the situation until it makes sense, instead of rapidly clinging to an assumption--.I just question and think to myself..and come to my own conclusions...even when I look at media on the news, I process it, then read it, then re-process it, and try to come to the conclusion without bias. Its naturally in-built really--it all started when I rejected stupid premises based on absolute certainty, when I knew deep inside they were ridiculous...so you just naturally "rebell" by pretty much questioning everything...and through that strenous and laborious dialogue, which most people don't want to go through, I became wiser.
