I want it to be safe of course and probably above ground (for gravity flow) to fill jugs. I heard storing gasoline for a long time tends to collect water or condensation in it somehow. I don't want water in my gas! Also, does it need to be vented or sealed off tightly? Ever heard of lightening striking a gas storage tank ? I need to know ALL the best advice and safe solutions to do this. Thanks! Teri

I use 5 gallon plastic gasoline containers and store in an outdoor shed. The generator fuel tank is topped up each morning as needed. For extended storage periods you should use a fuel stabilizer. Each spring I pour the unused gasoline into my car and use it before it gets stale and refill again in the fall.

Have a look at my web page for more ideas on safe operation of portable backup generators.

Go to a farm supply store; around here it would be Rural King or Tractor Supply. They have storage tanks for farms and can answer your questions.
