If you look around in the higher education / University + section, you'll see quite a few people asking about this right now. I have suggested, and continue to suggest, that you do your own homework (e.g. www.collegeboard.com; Fiske Guide to Colleges, US News & World Report online premium info re: college rankings, college websites, etc.) to get most of the info you need. Then ask OTHER questions that aren't obvious, that are more personal to you...e.g. "If I'm thinking of majoring in x, what courses should I be sure to take in my senior year?" or "I'm interested in playing y sport, but am open to playing varsity, or club/intramural. How are the teams selected? Is it possible to walk-on to a varsity team? Who shall I speak to about this?" "Can you see anything in my transcript that needs to change in order for me to be considered a serious candidate?" (e.g. they may say boost your SATs by 50 points, or take a certain subject, or get your GPA up a bit, etc.)
