What is the best solution to cleaning aquarium glass?

I am in the process of implementing an empty 100g tank. What is the best way to clean the glass before the addition of fish and plants? Are there any recommended products that not only remove calcium deposits and muck but will not harm a future fish and plant populations?

If you are doing a salt water tank then calcium is not a bad thing. There are actually a lot of good things that can be left in the tank. If you loook at a lot of salt water tanks then the only thing that is clean is the front of their tank. But if you want to get everything off then go to the pet store and get a glass scrapper. This will get everything off. Then wash it down with regular tap water. Make sure you fill it up and allow it to run for at least 3 days with nothing in it. This will allow the tank to get everything cycled through.

Avoid using soaps to clean aquarium components, since such chemicals are toxic to fish. If you must use a glass cleaner, use an ammonia-free cleaner on the exterior walls only.

i have 6 tanks and some of them are rehabilitated tank that had been laying around for months and the best way to clean them is using vinegar and then just rinse with warm water, nothing else. Vinegar comes from fruits and it is non abrasive and it doesn't contain any chemicals, try it, it will work.

use a bleach and water solution. and make sure you rinse it well and let it dry. Bleach is the only cleaner that will not leave a residue behind that will rehydrate when waters added,which can be very fatal to fish. Soap's should never be used on anything that will be inside the tank.

do not use any chemicals. just hot water and a sponge. talke all fish and plants out. rinse plants and rock well. never use any type of cleaner on the fish tank inside. you can clean out side with glass cleaner. good luck with your fish. i have 3 fish tanks.

you can scrub it out with bleach water but if you do that, when youre done wipe it down with a dechlorinater like stress coat or aqua safe, the dechlorinater will absorbe the bleach, then rinse the tank and fill it up, always worked for me

i find that vinger does the trick very well! But you must rise it out to get all the vinger out cuz it's acidic. But it works wonders on calcium deposits
