Being a good actress isn't just about taking classes. It takes a certain kind of person to be an actress. If your all ready out of your shell then go for any kind of acting experience you can get...school plays, theater classes, etc. If your shy though breaking out of your shell is the most important thing right now. Try going somewhere that forces you to interact with people or get a job working with people. If being shy isn't your problem then do anything RESPECTABLE to get attention. Even if your the best looking girl in the world and you can knock out your lines on the first try everytime it wont matter if no one ever sees you. Put your self out there! Also a lot of good actress didn't start there, they were found doing something else. Above everything else, be yourself and if it's what you truly want go at it with all your heart. I wish you the best!

...P.S. If you ever get famous could you send me an autograph.

All the acting and stagecraft you can get.

Once in the REAL WORLD understand you will start off as an USHER or TICKET TAKER and have to WORK YOUR WAY UP via LIGHTS, CURTAINS, PROPS.

These people in theater is very SADISTIC, they had to start this way so they make you start this way!

Also, get used to not making more than $300 a week in pay!

Get used to working 12 hour days 7 days a week

Get used to sleeping and living at the theater.

Acting is a life, not an adventure!

You also better not have a problem with druggies and homosexuals. About 15% are heavy drug users (I'd say 60% are casual drug users) and 35% are homosexuals in show biz.

It's not the place you'd take your grandmother for an inside tour. It is a very strange world of make beleive.

The audience NEVER sees behind the curtain. They only see what the directors and producers show them.

Also learn to not be modest. Something goes wrong with a costume you change back stage with the male (more than likely Homosexual) wabrodober and EVEYRONE there sees you in bra and panties! But only for about 30 seconds.

Learn to work when you have a 102 fever as THE SHOW MUST GO ON!

You are NOT stocking shelves at K MART!

You don't NOT SHOW UP because it's snowing outside.

You PLAY to 3 people in the house and you do it like you want an academy award!

You are a BRAIN SURGEON who makes $50 a night and goes out on Christmas Eve in the SNOW to play for 5 people in the audience and you LOVE EVERY MINUTE OF IT or find another profession!

Necessary? No. Helpful? Sure. There are some great theater schools out there. Just having a degree in general can help, but when casting, they'll pick the one who does the best job with the role, not necessarily the one with the degree. One thing that can be useful, though, is the networking you can do in school while getting your degree. As with many professions, sometimes "who you know" can make a difference. Also, having a degree - any degree, can help you get jobs to keep you afloat between acting gigs.

Call the community theater in the city where you live, ask them to recommend a school where you can take acting classes. Also, call the theater department of the universities and ask for a recommendation of acting schools. Don't be concerned with which classes to take, you will start with an acting course for beginners.

well many actors that are successful took theatre in college or acting. but theatre gives you a good background in acting and you know what to expect because you have to do a lot of plays.. and you'll get recommendations and can network and your plays can be your resume, because when you audition for roles some kind of experience helps.... honey, there are millions of people that have that same thought that they can just go to an audition and read a part and they're hired.. but hollywood has a lot of competition and you gotta look the part, know the part and be the part.. you don't want to look like an amateur just trying to get lucky... it's just like a job interview... don't apply for something that you don't have the experience in. also you can start real small and audition for commercials... get a portfolio done, and you can do modeling at the same time as well. but at least if you do theatre you'll have something to fall back on and you'll have experience.

It all depends on what is avaliable to you. Some places near big cities have acting classes for all ages. But in most of the country the only place you can get acting classes is in college at a major university.

Theatre is nowaday's as close to plain acting as you are going to get. Besides, Sigourney Weaver, Whoopi Goldberg, and George Burns all got their big break on the stage. Start with high school to tone your skills. Then go to a prestigeous acting university. As they say in showbiz "Break a leg".

Theater is important to acting, it is good to know the history of certain things to understand why you do certain things, how they would be done and the history of theater is just very interesting in general.
