Lots of great bars all within easy walking distance, 30 seconds from the Amway is Z's, go east up Pearl St. and which is out the Amway door also and will find plenty of bars. I like to go to O'tooles on Bridge, two minutes by car from the Amway. The Intersection always has a good variety of music acts.

I was recently in Grand Rapids on business, and was pleasantly surprised at how great the nightlife is, and how friendly the people are. Your hotel is East of the river, and that's where you want to be. There are TONS of bars in downtown Grand Rapids. One that I especially enjoyed was called Taps, it featured ... I don't remember how many beers on tap, but over 20. We walked the downtown area, very safe I might add, and travelled from bar to bar. Just ask your hotel clerk to point you towards the bars, as there are many downtown. You will have a blast there.

I used to work in Hotel Reservations call center, and we rep'd this hotel. Got to see it on a familiarization trip and it was GORGEOUS! They used to have a great Dutch restaurant called Grootmoters' Tafel (or something like that). And they had the greatest bubble bath in the rooms...

Ahhh....

Sorry I can't help you with the bars, but it looks like someone else did. Meanwhile, thank you for a lovely set of memories...
