I bought a harmonica the other day and I want to learn to play. Its as simple as that. Where do I start? What do I need to know before I start? Where did you all learn to play? I have googled "harmonica lessons" and searches of that nature but you can only learn so much from minute long video clips...

Thanks for your help! and if you play... how long did it take for you to get where you are now

playing the harmonica is not very hard, playing it good though is hard as hell. first you need to learn how to hold the harmonica and to get a clean single note. there are a lot of sites that have lessons (use the written lessons not only the video!) one example is:
http://www.todoarmonica.org/
it is in Spanish but you can use google to translate it.
after you get the single notes clean you can start playing songs!!
thats the great thing about the harmonica. you don't even need to know how to read sheet music you can use tabs - there are numbers indicating the hole you need to blow or draw. for example 4 means blow hole number 4 and -4 means draw on hole number 4. go to http://www.harptabs.com for more than 1900 song tabs. find the ones you like and know well and practice them.

every beginner has a problem with the lower/higher keys. it is not your harmonica its just takes time.
when you get all the notes to sound clean and right you can start trying bending notes but thats for another answer :-)

I got my first harp 4 month ago and using only the internet and books I am able to play many songs and just now stating to get the bends...

good luck
