Don't expect to see George Bush..
But yes - some are.
If they are a band, musician, or comedian - search for them under MySpace music or MySpace Comedy. Don't search for them on the normal search page. However, even when you search under music there may be copy-cats there too. You have to look and see whose has the most friends, plays, hits, etc. and whose looks more professional. The real accounts will have tour info, some blogs about events, etc.
Many celebrities these days have their PR team run a MySpace page in addition to their ___.com page. They've figured out that it gets more publicity.
BTW - There's something called "role-playing" accounts now - in which kids take celebrities pictures (or some random hot guy/girls pictures) and either steal their name and character too or create a fake name. For example, some people will take Paris Hilton's pictures and take her character. Other people will take Paris Hilton's pictures and change their name to Kiana or something. This is where MySpace gets soo weird to me is because there are thousands of little kids and teens out there doing this and they all know they are fake accounts and yet they "date" and have "friendships". Weird.

John Mayers was backstage blogging on his myspace while he was waiting to perform on Oprah the other day, they took the cameras back and peeked in on him , that's what he said he was doing because he was nervous.
I think some are real but they have people to actually do most of the checking for 'em. I read an article on MSN about Nicole Richie they mentioned her myspace -I thought yeah right , but I took a look anyway, the thing that made me beleive was her Dad's a friend on there U know Lionel Richie. Check it out Ur self. http://www.myspace.com/20117548

Mostly no, but some are run on their behalf by PR flacks. For minor celebrities, some are, especially indy bands & artists. They use MySpace to promote themselves. So if they have an Oscar, they probably don't even know what MySpace is. If they still live in their parents' basement, they probably run the site themselves.

Actually, some are. It's a little difficult to figure out, because as you know, many people do impersonate celebrities on MySpace.
One good way to figure it out is look on their official website. Some may post their MySpace blog link on their site. Weird Al has done that, and I have him on my friend's list. =D
I hope this helps a little. And no, your question isn't stupid at all.

most of them arent....but some of them are really convincing. I have people asking me all the time "is that really gerard from MCR's myspace" I'm like no. alot of bands have music myspaces that are run by their managers, tour managers, assistants, sometimes they even have web teams specifically for those, sometimes even the bands themselves run it, but actresses and actors, they're usually fake, but indivdual band members.....like alot of people make alot of fake davey havok and jade puget pages...some band members have their own pages, but the links are usually posted on the official band page. I dont believe it unless they can prove officialness. some of them are fansites, and it will say FANSITE on it. anf your question if completely legit....some people are fooled.

most seem to be real,a lot of them are run by their fan club members.Or the head of the fan club, most state that it is run by the fan club.Adam Sandler runs his own.And you can tell it's real because he has pictures on there that was taken in private, not just publicity shots.
