well at least she's got some taste in music, but she doesn't know the first thing about sports

For the sports question, those not into sports don't seem to see the appeal for the masses.
As for the Dave Matthews question, she is a little. Dave is a very talented musician and his solo and duet work on the guitar is very musically impressive. I've heard DMB called the musicians band because they are musically gifted more so then most rock and roll bands (ie they play more then 4 chords!!)

There is no reason to worry about what your mother thinks.
Spend some time forming your own opinions.
I can almost guarantee that your opinions will change over time.
