I mean the universe is so enormous that I think: "there has got to be something out there!"

So far we've seen no verifiable evidence of other sentient species. That said, I believe with some certainty that somewhere in our galaxy at some past, present, or future time, a sentient species did/does/will exist.

Why haven't we heard from them?

Perhaps they are not technologically advanced enough to be heard. They may be mastering stone knives right now, or experiencing their own Rennaisance.

Perhaps they are here right now. Any species sufficiently advanced to travel interstellar distances would be able to hide or masquerade with ease. That Boeing 737 that just flew by may be a surveillance craft.

Perhaps they are so far away they will never notice us and vice versa.

Perhaps they existed a million years ago and died out.

Perhaps they will exist a million years from now.

It is really impossible to know for sure.

The Drake Equation suggests that there is sentient life out there. The Fermi Paradox casts doubt. Play around with the calculation form at the second link and see what you think.

There's one thing you need for life as we know it. WARM WATER. You'll find living organisms 5 miles under the ocean where there are areas of mild volcanic activity heating the ocean floor..it is so deep, there is no light from above that gets down there...and yet STILL there is all kinds of exotic living growth that would have amazed Darwin.
Mars once had surface water...and Jupiter's moon Europa is thought to have an Ocean of water underneath a cracked layer of ice. So if either world had any such warm springs underwater...???
So that's just the possibilities in our Solar System...I personally think the idea that there's no other life out there in the universe is ludicrous nonsense.

I agree with you...i mean there are a lot of glaxies and all we have not even seen. i think we kno very little about space and other planets..i mean till couple of months ago we though pluto was a planet and now we find out thats it just looked that big because of the gas clouds and it does not actually count as a planet... i think that there needs to be a lot more research in this matter. Quantum Mechanics gives us a lot to think about. i mean proton and antiproton so there could be our world and then an anti our world

There are trillions of stars, billions of galaxies, and possibly infinite more beyond that, maybe even other universes, and we are one planet. One tiny planet on the outskirts of a galaxy on the the outskirts of a universe on the outskirts of the space-time continuum. We are not alone. I am sure of it. If life could evolve here, life could evolve there. Does every planet have life? No. Has extra-terrestrial life visited Earth? possibly but not likely.

If we are alone, then we're screwed.

i will't imagine which way will be extra brilliant: That there are others like us, or that we are the really sensible life that has advanced everywhere in all this time. I want the concept that there could be others, and that i'd want to have self assurance they have been right here earlier.

You may want to try and Google the Drake Equation. He was a scientist that create an equation that calculated the possibility of life elsewhere than on earth.

Though we have no proof that other life exists in the universe it would be virtually impossible not to be!
I can say for sure we are not alone!!

I think the chances that there's other life in the universe is about the same as the chance that this question will be asked again.....and again.....and again.....and again.....and again.

There is intelligent life out there. And it's intelligent enough NOT to come here. When we ourselves get more intelligent, then maybe we'll be worthy to meet them.

If we are alone, then I would have to say their is definitely a God, but if we do find more life out there?......hmmmmm!~ it doesnt talk about that in the bible?
