I'm 13 years old. Recently I took the Stanford-Binet test and scored 164. Is that enough for me to skip a grade? Am I permitted to skip a grade based on my IQ alone, or are there additional examinations I'm required to take?

It depends on what the school. Schools for gifted children focus on IQ and their own placement exams, but a lot of schools look at the maturity of the student in addition to IQ and other "intelligence exams".

I don't know of any schools that allow you to skip a grade based solely on IQ, as usually you instead need exceptionally good grades and good test scores. In most cases people with high IQ's find this easier to achieve, and so may be able to skip a grade. I say usually, bacause as the other post said there are many factors involved. I have a relatively high IQ, but my short attention span and lack of interest in school work meant I was doomed to be repeating grades rather than skipping them.

Unless you are extremely emotionally mature for your age, I would not reccomend skipping a grade. You will be ignored or resented by most of your new classmates, and may have other issues as well. Then again, my mother in law skipped 2 grades, and apparently had no problems (at least related to age) so this isn't true in all cases.

That score is only 2 points away from the ceiling of the test actually. An exceptional score.

There is really no IQ criteria required to skip a grade. Wether you skip or not is usually dependant on the work you do and what you are capable of in the classroom, but no doubt your high IQ will help greatly when suggesting to the teachers you would like to skip a grade. They probably wouldn't think twice about it because of your score.

not on IQ alone. But i think you can probably start skipping in high school when you have started to develope more maturity. People with higher IQ's can learn the same amount of info in much less time. My brother has skipped a couple math grades and is still getting an A in his class. Therefore, i would recommend waiting until 8th or 9th grade, and only skip if you feel the classes are not challenging enough. and probably ask your teachers for advice too.

Here is list of kids who have skipped grades, many skipping high school entirely. It has very little to do with IQ. http://www.extremeintellect.com/ei2007/kidsincollege/kidsincollege.html There is also a section on grade skipping.

As one person answered incorrectly, skipping grades does not cause social problems. There are many kids who skip grades and, yes, a few can't handle it....but, that is not the case with many kids. My daughter skipped six grades and she didn't have any social problems. She also has many friends who have skipped many grades and they don't have social problems either.

Grade skipping may or may not be the best answer. It is all based on what is right for each individual person and is determined on a case by case basis.

a radical buddy of mine in simple terms skipped a grade in extreme college, he went at as quickly as from freshman to junior 12 months. i do no longer understand which you will possibly prefer to pass your senior 12 months, although, or which you will. you're able to be able to have been waiting to pass a grade a pair of years returned, yet i think of staying for senior 12 months is needed. What he did to pass grew to become into take all of the instructions he might have mandatory to soak up his sophomore 12 months on line, and then he had to get it authorized. you're able to communicate on your coaching counselor approximately whether it would be obtainable or a solid selection for you.

IQ has nothing to do with your knowledge. You may be able to learn things faster, but you still have to learn it. And skipping grades can cause social problems.

All the IQ shows is you learn things quicker than others. But don't think you need to skip anything,if you skip you don't learn.
