This is so hard to answer because there are so many # ones for me... The Who, early Rolling Stones (the songs from the 60s), The Kinks, Pink Floyd, Midnight oil, CSN&Y.
As you can see by my musical choice I am a product of the 60's and 70's

That's SO hard to narow down. My top 2 fave of all time are definitely Led Zeppelin and Yes. I guess all these are number 3:

Soundgarden
Rush
Beatles
King Crimson
The Police
David Bowie
Genesis (mostly old stuff, before Hackett left)
ELP
Stones
AC/DC (mostly with Bon Scott)
I suppose there are many more...
I'm a guitar player and songwriter and play a little bit of synth/keyboard, and all these had a major influence on me. I would put Pink Floyd on the list, but somehow I got REALLY sick of them over the years. I do love their very first album, though, the one with Syd Barret. The rest I can't listen to anymore. I don't know why - they are great, but we grew apart, I guess...
