um.. answer to question 2 I agree because
1. Jefferson kept most of Hamilton's economic policies

--the bank (he was against it and kept it go figure)

---Louisiana Purchase:Rep. were strict construtionist but during the Lousiana Purchase Jeff. knew it was unconsititutional and still went along w/ the purchase b/c it would futher expand the agrarian society.
---Tripolian War: Republican hated large standing armies. Jeff. even downsided the navy in the begining of his presidency. After wars he invested in the "mosquito fleet" or gunboats. Why would this when he was pro-weak navy?
---Embargo Act: he was hated for this. He reminded colonist of King George.
Basically you need to know what were the Dem.-Rep. positions and find each way they went against them. Those were only a few examples.
