I don't believe your employer is able to send you home for being ill unless it is outlined in your employment contract. If you have sick leave they may be able to send you home. I am not sure. But if they send you home I don't know if they could dock you pay.

Neither myself or a single person I know lost their job, but that does not mean that we are not sensitive to those who have. In any event, all of us were frugal in the good times, and stored up as much as we could for a "rainy day". None of us bought homes we could barely afford, so if we do loose our jobs we can keep a roof over our heads. Since we are all working, have modest savings and most of us carry no debt, the economy has not affected us personally all that much. The buying power of the dollar is on our minds, but with credit being so cheap, and housing as well, at least one of us is making an offer on a house with a price and terms that were non -existent a few years ago. I have concerns about how long I will be able to keep my job, where my assignment moved to another city in January, and now three states away last week. There have been benefit cuts as well. I consider myself somewhat fortunate on one hand, on the other I made sure that I found as "recession proof" employment as possible, get an education and am a good employee. I think the latter two have had played some role in my continued employment. Times like these is where the employer trims out the deadwood first.

An employer at any time can send an employee home. If the employee is part time....this goes at any time. For a full time employee, they will have the option to leave. The employer must give them at least 32 hours but the employee has the option to leave if they are asked to go. Also, sick pay can be qualified for if they show back with a doctor's note. And by all means, if you are affected by the sick employee it is within your right to say something to the manager without any fear of retaliation.

Yes, but they have to pay them for at least the time they were there and up to the time they get home.
