Technically, no, a parent can’t legally kick their child out at 17. The child is a minor until the day they turn 18 and according to the Texas Family Code, a parent has “the duty to support the child, including providing the child with clothing, food, shelter, medical and dental care, and education” (along with many other duties and rights) provided that the child is not emancipated in some manner such as marriage or court decree.
With that said, I’ve known a lot of 17-year-olds that needed to be kicked out and have a dose of reality. While the parents can’t legally kick them out, they can make their life at home very unpleasant by taking away every extra they have, grounding them, etc. And the police can’t actually FORCE the parents to take the child back in. They can, however, put the child in the custody of the state.
If you’re worried about your nephew, send him money for a bus ticket to come to your house.

You know in Texas things are different sometimes. The don't play the poor kid stuff like in the other states.
I don't know what the law is but I can relate to having a kid that age.
Hey, ask the kid to come live w/you and you will send him on his way too most likely.

According to what I could find online, in most places it is 18, including Texas. (I googled "age of majority in Texas"). Until then, Dad is responsible for him. If anything happens to him and the authorities find out Dad kicked him out, Dad could be in real trouble for abandonment and neglect should the authorities choose to pursue it.
See if your nephew would be willing to come and stay with you until he is 18 if you are worried about him. Send him a bus ticket.
Good luck

He lies, cheats, steals, deceives, and itd be easier if he would act like the little thug he is. I'm totally wore out and it is making me extremely bitter. Help??

No matter where you live or what the laws are. When ever you give birth to a child you and your spouse should ALWAYS tend to the child and take good care of them till age 18 and send them to college, still love them forever and treat them respectfully.

yes, maam, dad can do this. and if dad is doing that he's probably a good dad trying to save his child. if i were you i'd keep a loving distance during this trying time for this family. and pray that your patience will guide you properly.
