The outside use of this term is not allowable, so this is
generally an interpretation for students. Hemo meaning
substitution with added plus components. The general
average doctor in an average hospital would call many
substances hemoglobin measured to arrest infections of the
heart, or other organs during surgery. Second it can be
administered in pills, shots, or liquid as a deterrent to shock.
Finally it is a general word of medical teams to mean that the
patient requires immediate surgery due to heart replacement.
This being the general term area also including heart repair.
The allowable term is described for what blood is in action.

One thing it can be used for is as a test for the presence of carbon monoxide. You take a drop or two of blood and put it in water, so the water is just a little pink. If air containing CO is bubbled through the water, the solution will turn a brighter red. That's due to the conversion of the hemoglobin into carbonylhemoglobin, which has an intense red color. This is also the reaction that occurs with CO poisoning (carbonylhemoglobin can't bond to oxygen), and causes the bright red lips of people who suffer such poisoning.
