Fish.
It teaches responsibility, it is quiet, and it is calming to watch

I would sugjest a a turtle if you like them. They can have great personalitys at times. Depending on the breed you could also get a bird ,some can be quiet and very sweet. Or you could also prove to your parents your maturaty and responsablity by helping a bit more around the house doing things with you little brothers/sisters. If you were to get a dog I would sugjest a poopdle or yorkie, they are smaller, and shed less either way good luck!

Pets that are quiet and easier to take care of than a dog or cat:
(1) Fish that can be kept in a simple bowl, such as one goldfish or one beta. (Avoid a big aquarium that is hard to change, to keep free of algae, or keep the equipment working. Do not put fish together that will fight or mate, if you want to keep this simple.)
(2) Hamster or guinea pig. (Again, you would have to promise to keep the cage changed, and agree who will pay for the food.)
(3) Gecko or turtle. (Aquariums that are dry are easier to keep clean. Geckos need live crickets every few days. I would check on turtles. But these are more fun to watch, and learn about.)
The advantage to (2) and (3) are you can take them out and play with them. But hamsters will gnaw until they escape. If you want to avoid problems, the gecko is low maintenance and doesn't bite.
I suggest you go to the pet store to get ideas and to ask questions about total cost involved, time per week, risks and responsibilities, and what pet owners like most or don't like about these pets.

I hate to recommend a cat, since I love dogs, but you can almost always rely on a cat being quite, especially spayed/neutered. Dogs, on the other hand, always have loudness potential, even spayed/neutered. Cats can make good companions if you pay attention to them, only when they want you to.
