Saddam funded supported ,supplied with weapons and funded by West to fight Iran, Taliban supported, supplied with weapons and funded by West to fight USSR . Osama funded with at least1million dollars by US.
If you don't like the question check your history and see who created what we are all fighting against.
Amazing that when we became buddies with Russia our allies have become our enemies(in the case of the first two).
We should be really carefull who we get into bed with!

Well Robespiere I am sorry the question is not obvious to you, it is asked to make people think and give an intuitive answer.
Maybe, the West should not put despotic leaders in power for short term gain but look at the bigger picture. Our Forces of young honourable people are left to die and fight for something that our leaders have created, and innocent civilians too.
We created the problem and the only way I can see of justifying it is economics of oil for us and the Islamic fight for them.I find it sad that anybody should die for money or because of religion.

National Interests overides any ethical issues im afraid. its how the game works if somebody can help you, no matter how bad they may be as long as the state acheives its aims, the means is of little consequence. Look at the current "friendship" with Pakistan. Look at how we have always supported Saudi Arabia. And with regards to Iraq we supported both Iran & Iraq during the Iran-Iraq war, where is the logic in that? the logic is all about the $ my friend its what this whole sorry affair is about.
And if you havent seen it I advise you watch "loose Change" its available for free all over the internet you seem like someone who would take quite an interest in this Documentary.

I think this is the kind of thing that the infamous Rev. Wright was ranting about in his sermons. If you listen to the entire sermon, he comments on things like how we funded Bin Laden, left him hanging and now Bin Laden is out for revenge at all costs. Again, he soured his message to some extent by making a very politically charged statements with some un American sentiment but he was right when he said that the things we have done and our policies around the world, particularly in the middle east is coming back to haunt us.

they don't call it politics for nothing. besides, osama's family is too involved with the us oil industry to allow a close relative to be captured, so the bush family decided to not capture him. and once the oil deal was signed between the us oil industry and the taliban, the taliban wasn't needed so they were overthrown. those are the facts. and george's daddy was in the thick of it.. he was buddies with the saudi royal family and was a business partner with them and the bin laden family. he was given a hefty reward when the saudi's sold their military manufacturing unit to the public in a public offering of srtock in 2002. it's the same company that provides military vehicles to the us army. they made over 231 million dollars the first day.

That's a good question, Bohemian, I think the simple answer is that they didn't expect they'd have to justify it. They thought they would crush those they wanted to and no-one would question it and the many British who protested againt the invasion of Iraq would forget about it. Of course, now it's gone all wrong, they are shitting themselves because they can't justify it and the voters are going to punish them. At least they get to keep their lives.

What is your point. You seem to have answered your question. If you are not on good terms with your neighbour and you are being mugged as he turns up, will you not ask for help? Iran and Syria, regardless of the ranting you hear in the press, are our new "partners for peace" Salaam!

Hmmm, even so, that happened well before Bush was even in office.
Why don't you ask Jimmy Carter, Bill & Hillary?
