can u play original xbox on line gamers with 360 for halo?

becouse my nephew and i cant voice chat but im not going to buy live gold if i cant play him to. he can send chats to me but i cant to him dumb that way and i have the 360 and it should be the other way cause i have the better game system and if theres a way i could voice chat with him could u tell me

With Halo2, yes you can, over Xbox live or thru a LAN connection. I'm not sure about Halo 1 because I'm not sure if you can use the 360 with Xbox Connect (xbconnect.com).

I use my 360 at LAN parties all the time with folks that use the original Xbox, but we only do Halo 2.

There's no problem. EXCEPT.. in mid-spring of next year, there's going to be some new multiplayer maps released for Halo 2, that will ONLY work on the 360... so obviously the original xbox wont be able to load those maps.
