Try http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos074.htm for information about becoming a physician. After one becomes a physician, the person can specialize in a particular area after getting additional training.

An MD or DO degree (which means minimum of 4 yrs of med school AFTER your 4 yr undergrad degree). You still have to complete clinicals, residencies, and additional training.

I don't know that obstetrics is a great field to get into: too many doctors being sued. I know that malpractice insurance is unbelievable!

You have to be a Doctor, i.e. have a medical degree with further training in that field.

Have you considered becoming a midwife? This seems interesting, and involves less schooling time.

probably 4 year general science then go into med school.
