first read the poem

Sonnet 30
Love is not all: it is not meat nor drink
Nor slumber nor a roof against the rain;
Nor yet a floating spar to men that sink
And rise and sink and rise and sink again;
Love can not fill the thickened lung with breath,
Nor clean the blood, nor set the fractured bone;
Yet many a man is making friends with death
Even as I speak, for lack of love alone.
It well may be that in a difficult hour,
Pinned down by pain and moaning for release,
Or nagged by want past resolution’s power,
I might be driven to sell your love for peace,
Or trade the memory of this night for food.
It well may be. But I do not think I would.

Edna St. Vincent Millay

I don't always understand what the metaphors. means. i think meat symbolises power, life and death.
What do you think. these things symbolise: meat, drink, slumber, roof, spar, sink, resolution's power, food

I don't think these are metaphors at all. The poem is simple and straightforward. Love is not a physical need, but it is still needed to live, even beyond the resolution to do without, it can not be denied, without love there is no life.

ok i in simple terms prefer to characteristic that the purple triangle grew to become into the logo that the Nazis made homosexuals positioned on on their outfits for the duration of WWII so as that they could be actual pointed out. in simple terms like the celebrity of David that all of the Jewish people have been required to positioned on. i do no longer understand if that detrimental connotation has been bumped off via homosexuals now choosing to positioned on the purple triangle at the instant yet i for one won't. it particularly is purely a private selection although. different than that each physique i understand of is the six shade rainbow flag (purple, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple) and that's what i'm going to stay with. Sorry if i sound indignant, i in simple terms get mad that no-one seems to recollect that the Nazis killed tens of millions of homosexuals too.

It became painfully clear in my most recent relationship that love doesn't pay the bills. Love is love, but it isn't necessarily motivation, aspiration, patience, or even happiness or pleasure, and it isn't necessarily going to get one through hard times.
