Try the Settlers of Catan and you'll never look at another board game the same way.

Chess. It is a game that has no luck involved with it. There are no cards, dice, or spinners. You only have what you have moved on your own free will or what your opponent has forced you to move. After the opening series of moves, there are really no 2 games alike.

Not sure if it's a 'board game', per se, but we played with a battlegrid, so I'll vote dungeons and dragons. Far more options then any other game - if you can name it, you can do it (or at least try).

Scrabble. Has both skill and luck elements. A
skillful player
might beat a lucky player or a lucky player can sometimes beat the most skillful one. I kmow this is true because I have been lucky enough to beat the current US Champ. (We play in the same club.)
