Well, i first started out just by getting used to actually playing the guitar itself. You should just basically fool around with it until you feel comfortable with it. Then you can look up guitar tabs from www.ultimate-guitar.com and play some easy songs and stuff until youre comfortable to start coming up with your own music. If you have any questions, just look around the site. They have a lot of info you could use in the future of your guitar playing =]

The best way to teach yourself is to make it a game. Only pick songs that you are crazy about. This way practice time flies by. In the process of having fun, you will have picked up alot of chords in no time. Practice, Practice, but have fun! Thas the way I do it.
