Current recommended DoD guild lines for password creation is that the password must conform to the following:

Contain at least 2 uppercase letters
Contain at least 2 numbers
Contain at least 2 lower case letters
Contain at least 2 Special characters
Contain no English words (although I'd argue no foreign languages either, including h4cK3r speak too)
Contain no identifying information (phone numbers, etc)

Although, with a server cluster and l0pht crack running, you can break down even one of those passwords in about a day using brute force (with a strong enough cluster). So my recommendations if you want real password strength is to employ two factor authentication such as biometrics (thumb print scanners) or one time pads (like SecurID). But this can get costly.

Good luck.

If you're talking about the admin password that pops up before booting into windows, it's perfectly safe. If you're talking about a password for your Yahoo Messenger, it and your yahoo id is never completely safe. However, you can choose a well protected password by using 3 letters, 3 numbers and then 3 more letters, making it one of the hardest to crack. As an example HTB294LAY. Good luck. Is it strong?
Passwords should be at least six characters long
Use a combination of letters and numbers
Do NOT use your name or birthday

You have some really interesting things on your computer.
Thanks!

If I was you, I would create a password using both numbers and letters.
My dictionary program found your password in 31 seconds.

how do you expect people to answer that question? ill just say that a safe password has letters numbers symbols (!@#$%^&*) and words that are inside jokes or not in the dictionary. the harder it is to guess, the better off you are. :)

a safe password should have numbers letters and upper & lower case letters.

also, try to be obscure - try picking up a dictionary & picking a word at random, then adding numbers (hopefully random as well). just make sure to remember it!
