From what I'm told, I sound really country. I've recorded my voice before out of curiousity and I have come to find that that is correct.
I hate the way I sound, not only because it doesn't portray me correctly (people think that I'm some dirty redneck when they hear my voice, but people that haven't heard my voice call me 'punk' (whatever that's supposed to mean)). I'm in the 10th grade at an all guy school, which makes it a billion times worse. I constantly get mocked and made fun of because of my stupid voice. Every damn word that comes out of my mouth is either repeated in some bad imitation, or not taken seriously. I'm sick of it and I just want a "normal" voice. I want people to take me seriously and not mock me and make fun of me. Does anyone know of any way to get your voice "changed"? Anything at all (surgery, even). I am desperate!!! Please help!

Exaggerate your voice to the point where you will be laughing with them. Use your sense of humor. Or take speech lessons. or better yet try and sound like Clinton look where it got him! If all else fails get some helium balloons and really freak the creeps out!!!

Sweetheart, it just sounds like an accent. You don't need any surgery! Your voice is still changing anyway, you're only 16. If you really get teased you could talk to the choir/music teacher at your school, and ask him/her if they could instruct you privately (so you don't get teased any more) on changing the inflections of your accent. Who knows? You may find you have a fabulous singing voice! Who'd be laughing then???

the reason your voice sounds distinctive is by way of the fact it echoes in yet in a distinctive way on your head, making it sound distinctive to different people. Your sister hears herself in yet in a distinctive way too.

Don't worry about it.

Or try this, have your teeth removed and see if it changes your voice.

But, that is the extreme.

Think before you talk. Decide how you want to sound. Then speak slower than what you are used to. As you become more and more accustomed to this, then you will change how you sound.

Surgery? Good God. Just take some speech therapy. It's quite easy to change your accent. That's how people are able to be multi-lingual, you know...
