Laptop says Invalid Battery... How do I fix this?

Created a dual partition and installed Windows XP and 2003 server. Unable to use battery. It says invalid on startup and will not charge when plugged in

Have no such message for Dell Inspiron, Latitude or Compaq C610. Suggest test battery on another laptop or try with another good battery before knowing for sure
