You are right when you say people have strayed away from the ideals and values of our previous generation. Sure, that generation had it's problems, but nothing of the victimization stunts we have so many of today. Many are not held accountable for their actions, therefore, it is easy to escape into the "It's not my fault" demeanor. Too many Bart Simpson phrases, "I didn't do it" and etc. are plugging the mouths of too many. This gives so many people an out for responsibility because then they can blame some group or psychological menace (whatever illness is most popular at the time). The handout came earlier and grew, though. Someone saw a hand that was out being filled to the brim and felt he had to have some of that too. Out the window went "earn your own way in life."
This has happened, unfortunately, because we have a bunch of permissive people in our society that make laws as such and others that have no backbone to put their foot down to limit the ridiculous society we have become.
We've become a very lenient nation, so busy worrying about stepping on someone's toes or not being politically correct. By doing so, we lose the strong values of yesterday.

I totally agree. When I listen to my grandmother talk about New Orleans when she was growing up I get a little jealous. We know two different cities! I know one filled with violence and self hatred. She knows one filled with Smiling children adoring Mr. Bingle on Canal street for Christmas. She lived in a world in which you could leave your door unlocked at nite. Let me think about that doing I'd be dead the next morning.
Yes I am a hurricane Katrina victim. I felt for those who couldn't evacuate like I did. I think its sad how it over a year and they are still trying to live off of the government!
People my age have no manners! i was fortunate to be raised by grandmother who taught me to respect my elders and speak to everyone in the neighborhood!! But what can u expect from a generation who raised themselves!

Here, here.....I agree completely.........I don't think anyone in this generation even knows what it was like to walk out your door in the morning and say hello to everyone. If you smile and say hello today....they think you're flirting with them.
Also no one knows what it's like to be helpful in a store....or say a good word about your co-worker (instead of all the back stabbing). Trust went out the door and mistrust stepped in.
Yes......and your point about not taking responsibility for your actions is so correct.......no one wants to work hard for the money any more.....nor do they have their heart in it. Yes.....not too long ago were the good old days......who'd have thought?!

You go! I wish I had a good answer for that. I think the main thing would be greed. Politicians would be next, but then that falls under greed. Government, oops there we go again with that greed. This whole world is out of hand, its who you know, what can you do for me. Why can't anyone just do the right thing anymore?

I agree wholeheartedly. The reason people fall into the "victim mentality" it because it's easier on their conscience than having to own up for the way their life turned out and actually do something about it.

Come on, what is so great about the old ways? In the early 1900s, women weren't allowed to vote. African Americans were systematically mistreated. Even more recently, the "old generations" are the ones who spit on the soldiers of the Vietnam War as they exited the buses on their way home.

It's a litigious world, where everybody blames somebody for their problems, and is rewarded for doing so.
