I do, even a week before Thanksgiving in the States, I am hearing Christmas music played in the stores. Decorations, candy, loads of catalogues in the mail. I won't go into a shopping mall. I get sad during the holidays. I am allready dreading the rest of the year. Maybe it is just me getting older, but I look less forward to this time of year every year. I know I am not the only one, but why, I mean, what kind of people do get depressed this time of year,
Thanks for the answers.

Holidays are usually times where families some together. Lots of community type stuff. It's also the time where the greatest amount of guilt is laid on you. Give to the hungry, Jesus died for your sins, yada-yada-yada. Kinda takes the fun out of it.

I pretty much live alone. No Christmas parties, birthdays, and any such things. Just me, my thoughts, and my Internet connection. I get depressed around the holidays.

I think back to when I was a child. Ah, blissful ignorance. Christmas trees, presents. Family that I don't even know coming over. Egg nog. Lot's of love and greed there. Easter egg hunts, trick or treating. All gone, never to return.
I feel you pain. you're not alone.

I think usually it is people who are already depressed, alone and sad. If that is not you, them maybe the holidays remind you that you don't feel you are in the right place right now for your age. You should rely on your family and friends right now. Old as the saying is, you need to count your blessings. Think of all the things you would miss in your life right this second if it were taken away. We all have things we take for granted and would miss if it were gone. Do be thankful for the things in your life that are good and forget your expectations or wishes for what is not. That is for next month, or next summer or whenever you get a chance at another grasp at what your dreams are. This is good, because you still have something to look forward to in life. God bless.

Because everyone expects more and more every year. So you think that you just have to do more. When actually all you should do is to respect the holiday. The more you try to do the less money you will have so just have fun.

People who have suffered the loss of a loved one and those who had sad childhood holidays..sort of like PTSD for them and take no joy in any of it.
