I am not sure what they are asking. I discussed the relationship of amino acids to proteins, therefore I am not sure if that is what they are asking.

FIrst of all DNA is not a mixture of nucleic acids and proteins, but protein does hold DNA together, and certain proteins (histones) that hold DNA together need to be activated in order to open up essentially in order to allow for transcribtion of DNA into messanger RNA. However, if you reverse a protein to DNA you find where it correlates to on the DNA strand and the nucelotide sequence, thus this may be a possible reasoning to the question. For the most part i would not say proteins are a window to DNA but instead a key to understanding it.
