I was thinking of naming one of my kids a name from the Bible that is really unpopular. I was thinking of like Hubakkuk, Zephaniah, Nahum, Nehemiah, or Dueteronomy. Would he be laughed at? And can you think of a nickname for some or any of the names?

Nehemiah is great, so is Hubakkuk, Elisha, Ezekiel. Give them a strong bible name and bring them up in with Lord. Who cares what everyone else is saying, they will be better off.

Nahum, or Nehemiah is ok. Not Deuteronomy though. THe others maybe., but may be a little too weird for some people.I liked that Miah, for Nehemiah.

I know an Isaiah, Jeremiah, Isaac......I think the Bible book you are thinking of is Habakkuk. I would go for Nehemiah out of these choices. I like Micah. I am not sure if you realize Deuteronomy is not a person's name (as used in the Bible) it is a word meaning repetition of the law and is the last book in the Pentateuch.

The only named will not get your child laughed at is Nehemiah!

Remember kids can be cruel! Think about that before you name them something most people can't even pronounce. Besides Nehemiah the only name I am sure that i can pronounce correctly is Deuteronomy!!

For Zephaniah he can be called Niah or Haniah. That is a cool name. For Nehemiah you can call him Miah or Niah (take the N and add it to the iah). For Deuteronomy you can call him Dewy, Terry, Ron, Ronamy, or if you want to switch some letters around for a nickname you can call him Roman.

I think those are little over the top. I like the orginality though. I do know someone named Nehemiah and was teased relenltlessly. His nickname was "Knee-High-a-miah".

I think Moses, Noah, Abraham, Elijah, Gideon, and Canaan are GREAT biblical names that have not been overused. I think Noah is getting more and more popular though.

I'm sure you remember how cruel kids can be when any other child is even a little bit different. I'm not saying not to name your child any of these names, I'm saying think about it first. When you were in 4th grade, would you have survived with any of these names? I think they are very cool names, but I am also a mature adult. My name is Margo and I was made fun of for my name for years, and I don't think my name is nearly as uncommon as any of these. But after all these years, I have grown into my name and now I love that I don't share my name with everyone on the block.

I really think it's a decision for you and the mother of your child.

Depends. I'd wager that all those names would get him some ribbing. Of all of them, Nehemiah being the one with the least amount of possible ridicule. I love Biblical names, I'd suggest something unpopular yet still heard of, like Elijah or Abraham.

zephaniah or nehemiah is fine i wouldn't go with dueteronomy though... other names from the bible you could use are genesis or jeremiah is cute and a nick name for jeremiah would be jeremy, genesis would be gene (jean)

Zephaniah is a cool name. If you choose an uncommon Biblical name, just be sure that you are familiar with the meanings of the stories they are in. There are quite a few unsavory characters in the Bible.
