Are you thinking of the Donner Party? They were traveling through the Rockies to CA, got trapped by the snow, and ended up eating some of the people who died to survive.

I believe it was the Donner Party. There was another group also, but that took place somewhere in a jungle.A very disturbing movie was made about it. I don't know the name of the movie, but I don't think it's readily available.

I think you're thinking of the homesteading Donner party of 1846. The 80 or so individuals were caught in a snowstorm on their way to California and were caught in the Sierra's. Nearly half died of starvation, and the other half held out as long as possible before nourishing themselves on their pals.

Jeffrey DAHMER was a serial killer who also ate his male "dates". Men he lured back to his apartment, killed, dismembered and kept in the fridge. Yuk.

There's also a movie called "Alive"...based on a true account of a South American plane crash where the survivors ate each other before they were rescued. Imagine the indigestion....

Donner Party, you are now being served.

Sorry, bad joke about cannibalism. Here's a bunch of info from PBS (American public television) about the incident:
