I am in the middle of a divorce right now.Their is legal aid for those who can't afford a divorce lawyer. If you are a woman this usually means they make your soon to be ex-husband pay your lawyer or they set up a very affordable payment plan.
The only other thing I have come across is filing for a divorce yourself without a lawyer. You go to the courthouse and get the paperwork. The only thing is you and your spouse have to agree
on everything(who gets what, alimony, childsupport, custody of children and visitation). If you can't agree on everything, you cannot go this route. You have to both sign.
Cost varies by state. For instance in Indiana it was only $65,in Florida,it is nearly $300.
If you choose legal aid, call your local welfare office, they will be more than happy to give you the information and phone numbers you require.
Good luck!

Yes there is. Go to your local court house and tell them that you want a divorce package. Here it is or used to be like 100 or 200 dollars. The reason it is so cheap is because you don't have to have an attorney just the two of you agreeing on everything and the children if any are involved. Other then that you drop it off and they send you paperwork in the mail to tell you that you are divorced. I hope that helps... Good Luck!!!

Yes. There should be a low income place to go to sign up for legal assistance. Also you can go to the circuit clerk and get a do it yourself divorce packet. I went to the low income place and they did EVERYTHING, I just had to show up for court and ask for what I wanted out of the divorce!

Ha, no. Not at all. Never a free divorce. Those who cannot afford a divorce usually just seperate for good. Though, if you're planning to divorce, better start pinching your pennies now.

If the two of you can agree on everything on come to a compromise. But then again, isn't that why your getting divorced in the first place?? The abscence of agreement and compromise on one or both of the parties.

An uncontested divorce, where you two agree on everything, is not very expensive. You basically just pay for the paperwork and for it to be filed. In some cases you don't even have to go to court.

If a judge can rule you as a hardship case, then yes it is free. I did that. So my divorce cost me bus fair to the court house.

So sad, with all the conviences in the world, we want to put our lives out there like a drive thru service, Fast and effortless........the papers may be signed and delivered, doesn't mean all the hurt and the change in you doesn't happen..... It will take longer than the papers..

Yes, get a "do it yourself divorce" book. My brother did that, both wanted to divorce so there were no problems.
