Every job description has what is called other things.

You can be fired.

i woulf not fire you. i would put you in the books as willfully treminated. you left your job. so basically you quit. you did not follow any prociedure or chain of command. you just have the attitude that you dont have to do anything that you do not want to do.

the size of the person that asked you to move a box is irrevelant
so is your sixe. what is revelant is was the box over the weight capacity for a single person lift. this capacity is usually 45-50 pounds. depending on what state you are in.

and furthermore it depends on what your position in the company is in relation to his position in the company. if he is a manager and you are an employee, you are out of luck.

and no job now has a solid description, they are usually very basic and have some type of miscellaneous task clause.

oh and on a bad note for you. law firms are very good at BLACK BALLING people. the whole "you will never work in this industry again" line...and last i checked it is very hard to sue a law firm.
most lawyers dont want that on their record and if you try to represent yourself you will be eaten alive in court.

You can ask for a tool to do your job better such as a dolly or hand truck. You shouldn't say "NO" or walk out. Walking out was the biggest mistake although you may have done yourself a favor. If you don't like working there then you have done the right thing. Turn this into something positive and go try to find a place where you like your boss enough that you don't want to walk out.

If your job definition does not include moving objects then you have every right to say NO. Obviously in a law office you were not hired to move somebody Else's boxes.

If a country (or in this case a terrorist organization fronting as though they care for their people) commits an act of war, they better be ready to fight and not cry for a cease-fire. That being said, I wish so many civilians had not been killed in this conflict. War is meant for soliders- not innocent civilians.

You can be fired if you refuse to wear a "Go Yankees" shirt when ordered.

The question is whether or not the resulting unemployment is your fault under Unemployment Compensation.

Now, to prevent the firing, here's what you do. Go to one of the law partners, and tell them what happened. Laugh about it. "You know what that guy wanted me to do? Heavy boxes? hee hee! Isn't that FUNNY?"

And if you still get fired, file for unemployment. Being fired for being unable to do the impossible isn't your fault.

Yup, pretty much you are fired. The only thing that could possibly save you is if you have a medical condition that prevents you from lifting but my guess and just a shot in the dark. No medical condition.

If it's without a doubt not in your job description then no you can't be fired. But if it's vague such as "help out around the office" then yes you can be fired.

If he is higher ranking then you, then technically yes, as he is your boss. Besides you walked out on your boss...

If he is just a lazy coworker then no. But you still walked out, during work hours??? so you left??? that could get you fired.

Either way, doesn't look like you have much of a chance.

If the guy is your boss and the are light enough for you to move and possibly if it is in your job description then you better believe you can get fired...If you left, he'll call it insubordination and you're gone.
