Because many people view history as just that 'history'.
It is very true, that what takes place today, has taken place sometime in the past.
We all should learn from 'our' past mistakes. But, it is human nature when we don't and we repeat what has happened before.
There will probably be many more items in the future that we will repeat again and again. It's just the cycle of life. One society achieves greatness and then it falls. Another takes its place and does the same thing. It happens over and over again. But, have you noticed that each society that achieves greatness and then falls, is getting shorter and shorter each time. The Egyptians lasted for nearly a 1000 years or more, the Romans lasted for 800 years or more, the British Empire lasted for nearly 200 years, and now the USA has achieved greatness and is now on the decline. The 1960's is our turning point.
