I messed up the question . i have a combo drive and am looking to buy dvd discs to store pictures on. my local store carries dvd-r and dvd+r disks. Both answers above are great. is the answer for cd's the same for dvd - ie. is the +r for data. thanks again.

cd-rom and cd-r?
there is not such thing as cd+r
there is a dvd+r and dvd-r and dvd-rw and dvd-rom

Well actually the first answer was horrible sense CD+R does not exist. Now as for which is better between DVD+R and DVD-R, just a matter of competing standards, almost every burner and player will support both. DVD+R is a little better by most accounts, but really either will do.

CD-R 's Are generally able to be played in any stereo, or car head unit.

CD+R's are mainly used for information, and not to be played in stereos or cars

Same thing for DVD's...I guess, The R stands for "Recorded"
for not playing it in ur stereo
