are you sure it's not x=1+z/y? is there something else to the question?

y(x-1) = z
You have to distribute the y
yx - 1y = z
Add 1y to both sides and divide by y
yx - 1y + 1y = z + 1y
yx = z + 1y
x = (z+ y) / y
