Also, where leotards are made in a variety of materials (nylon, supplex, cotton, etc) which suit the taste or needs of the wearer, swimsuits need to be of a synthetic that dries quickly. Also, the lining of the swimsuit keeps it from becoming too revealingly transparent when wet. The nature of the fast drying fabrics make this necessary where a leotard doesn't have this problem.
