The next number is 27, than 26, and 676 and so on and the pattern appears to be:Multiply the number times itself, than add 2 , and Subtract 1 and repeat and so on.

I'd say 27. The pattern appears to be:

Square the number
Add 2
Subtract 1

The sequence is 3 steps: take the first number square it, then add 2, then subtract 1. Then you start all over again.
