Just as the box says 6-8 hours or overnight. TSS isn't pretty and can be lethal. The higher the absorbency the higher the risk.

There was a young girl in our town who died of TSS back in the 80s. It was a tragic loss of a bright, talented young girl. She had worn her tampon too long. Don't take that chance. Change them at least every 4 to 6 hrs. 8 hours is the absolute max. Besides, you will feel and smell much cleaner if you change regularly. A tampon left in more than 4 hours can start to smell a little rank. I know you wouldn't want to smell bad.

You are not specific as to where you are keeping your tampon. If you are keeping it in a drawer, I'm sure a couple of years is safe. In your purse, you might not want to keep it more than a couple of weeks.
In the intended body cavity, no more than 4 to 6 hours. You can keep it in longer, but the box is correct. You will increase your risk of infection the longer you keep it in.

Heavy flow - 4-6 hours. Light flow no longer than 8 hours. Tell your friend to change her tampon everytime she goes for a wee. She'll remember then. And dont worry about TSS.

six to eight hours is a long time to keep a tampon in. Think if u r a heavy bleeder nasty. I change mines every time i use the rest room and i am not a heavy bleeder.I say every 2to4 hrs is long enough.

Go with what the box says. When i wore tampons i changed mine every four hours. I would go as far as to tell you to see your gyn and ask her or him what they think is a good number for you or even if you should be using tampons.

ok, first of all the TSS risk comes in when you change your tampon excessively..meaning if you are REMOVING an ALMOST CLEAN tampon and reinserting a fresh one immediately, several times a day you are increasing your already very small risk of TSS. If your friend knows her body and her flow, she'll figure it out and be fine.

I usually only keep mine in for 2-3 hours. It's dangerous past that.
