Any advice you may have would be helpful. Im starting from scratch, and have no idea where to look. I'm not looking to make a full time job of it, just fulfilling a hobby.

Thank you,

Bart

When trying to become a published writer, you need to decide what you are going to write. Once you decide that, do research and stuff if you need to for you articles, stories, etc...

Read many other articles, books, and such as those and observe on how the author write. Develope your own style, and write at least 1000 words each day. Also, try to type in the morning. Most people say that it's best because it's easier.

When writing, leave off in the middle of a sentence until you come to it the next time. Usually it will drive you crazy and you keep on thinking about it.

When stuck with writer's block, take a break from it, work on other stuff, or just write plain nonsense for fun on something different.

Once you get your work finished, you have to send it off or such to someone, and it's rare that it will get selected, seeing that there are so many writers out there and so many hopers. If you don't hear from them soon, don't be sad, just look at it and see where you can improve, and start again.

Keep on writing even though you are down. You never know what you can do until you try. ~_^

To practice a bit, you might want to try some fanfiction sites. Publish your work there, and some people will give you much feedback. I write fan fiction, and I've learned a lot as I've written. It's fun to see what feedback you get, and don't be discouraged when you get bad feedback. Take it as fuel to write better!

Also, there are many websites out there that tell you of writing tips and how to improve.

There are many tips when it comes to writing. I hope this helps!

It's a competitive market if you want to make it with the big dogs. Your pretty much have to have a literary agent. Start researching the myriad of epublishers on the net. There are some very credible ones who take their business serious. First determine which genre your story will be, then find out if the publisher of interest handles that type of book. If you want to make money at it, you have to be prepared to spend some of your own, plus lots of time doing promotional work. I know...that's how I got started and now I have six books and five novellas published. I recently got a literary agency, because I want to see if I can realize my final goal...mainstream publishing. Best of luck to you.

Learn about copyright info on this site. www.firstgov.gov and then go to the library. there are books and websites to help you out.

i have done exactly what you are trying to do. i have been published now many times.

i started out blogging then got lucky and found a local poltical news site that has allowed me to indulge. i use a pen name as i post about m y states government.

if you write for fun try fiction if you want to write to be a reporter or journalist try freelancing starting with letters to the editor and the opinion sections of places. It is how i got started in the big leagues. before that i submitted poems in hs and at company newsletter.

i suggest when doing a story or topic, do your homework and do your research. fact checking is the key.

i rely on legal and state law websites and and other govt stat websites online for my stories.

good luck! i love it when i get feed back btw be able to have a thic skin and know you will get editing at times. take on the chin and learn from those edits.

Get in touch with other writers. Read lots of books. Study the market. Look at trends to see what's selling and what isn't.

But above all, write for yourself. And take it slow.
