As a general rule, even when a doctor needs to listen to the chest/heart, he doesn's ask you to strip to the skin. Usually you can leave your bra on, so you will be at least as covered as you are at the pool or beach. There will be a woman in the room with you it the doctor is male, and you will likely be given a gown or sheet to cover the rest of you with.
As personal as it is to you, the doctor doesn't "see" you as being attached to the parts he/she examines. You aren't the first person to be a bit nervous about this, and won't be the last- but you are not the first, last or only patient your doctor has seen either.
I've worked in hospitals and clinics for over 20 years now, so I've seen loads of people and parts. I don't connect faces with parts as a rule, and unless somebody just really pushes my memory I don't even try. Even when people meet me and try to refresh my memory, it often doesn't work- I just don't connect things that way. Neither do the doctors and nurses I work with. That's why you have a medical record, because otherwise they usually can't remember.
You can admit to the doctor you are a bit shy and embarassed, and will probably find you feel less so after saying it. The fear we voice loses a lot of power over us, and the doctor can do a bit to ease your embarassment as well. All said, just grin and bare it- and it won't be so bad as you are dreading.

I'm a doctor and I examine women's hearts with the stethescope all the time without them sitting topless before me.
Most of the time (if you aren't wearing multiple layers or heavy clothes) I can have you move your shirt a little and work around your bra. Occasionally I'll have a woman remove her top, but then replace it with a hospital gown before the exam. If your doctor asks you to expose your breasts for a heart exam, that is inappropriate.

Perhaps you could wear a tank top under your shirt. That would protect your modesty and still allow him access to listen to your heart and lungs. Remember, he is a doctor. He doesn't look at you assessing you for sexiness or anything like that. He is checking out how your heart and lungs sound, the color of your skin and nails (blue is bad) and is concerned about your health. There is no reason to be embarrassed.

Just remember that when you go that same Doctor has seen hundreds possibly thousands of naked people, so don't be embarrassed. I think going to a Gyno is more embarrassing. Sometimes a heart Dr. wont even have you remove your shirt. Don't worry just relax and it will be over before you know it.

You're going to the(?) heart doctor(?)-- and you're worried about your modesty??? I would be more worried about the reason for the visit and pray nothing is seriously wrong. If you think it's embarrassing to bare your boobs---just wait till you have to have a pelvic exam. Now, that's embarrassing. Just relax, girl, the doc isn't interested in your physical attributes----only your pocketbook (or insurance).
I pray you are alright.

try wearing just a sports bra or a tank top. I know alot of people say "suck it up" but nowadays you don't know what doctors you can trust. The doctor does not need to take off your sports bra or tank top so it should be fine. (unless you're going in for an operation.) Chin up and relax. :-)
Good luck!

Wear a tank top under your shirt instead of your bra. The doctor does not need to take the tank top off.

Just relax and try be get comfortable. They really won't see that much, and I'm quite sure they have seen it all before. Take a book or magazine to read while you are waiting just to relax you for a moment.

Just remember he has seen it all before. Just take a deep breath and think of something else.(what your going to do on the weekend, what to wear etc) something to keep your mind off of it.
