It's much easier to see the pattern if you represent them as fractions:
3.5 = 7 / 2
5.25 = 21 / 4
7.875 = 63 / 8
11.8125 = 189 / 16

The ratio between terms is 3/2 (or 1.5). Multiply the numerator by 3 and the denominator by 2 to get your next answer.
